I love sites like Freecycle.org and Craig's List.
They do take a little bit of extra work to find what you are looking for, and to make sure you can trust the people you are trading with, but in the end it is completely worth it. Many times sellers are more interested in just making sure that the items that they are parting with find a happy new home rather than making money. It also saves TONS of waste from going straight to the dump.
A friend recently furnished her entire house with beautiful furniture from CraigsList.org and you would have never known! It was a beautiful place and she must have saved thousands of dollars.

Isn't that kind of sad too--the fact that "things" have become so disposable in this society? The 2009 Nilson Report stated that the average amount of credit card debt held by American household's with at least one credit card was $10,679 in 2008. With that much debt, I don't think we should have so much perfectly good free stuff available, ya know?
