I'm so excited, we are getting some landscaping done tomorrow. In order to save money in our water bill, we are going to xeriscape. Interestingly, I think this is going to help us save money on maintenance as well, since we won't need to mow.

Is anyone else changing their home design in order to save money in some respect?

I'm a perennial renter, but I really do want to buy a home so that I can "green" it up with solar panels, a gray water system, xeriscaping, etc. Though we do rent, I did hear about one interesting water conservation tactic that anybody with an A/C system can use. Since air conditioners always have water run off, you can collect it in some kind of container and use that to water your veggies and flowers. Apparently the run off is pure water and no chemicals. Not having any plants at the moment, I haven't tried it. It sound a little radical to me, but hey, if the water is just going to run off into the ground why not use it for a good cause?

That is a great idea! I've never looked in our drip pan, but I know it exists. I can't believe there isn't any freon or other cooling agent in it though. I guess if my vegetables grow up frostbitten, we'll know why!
