Being a caregiver is an emotionally taxing activity. While you definitely feel good about providing care for a loved one, there is some emotional strain that you deserve to have care for. What do you do to discuss and heal this strain?
My husband and I took care of my mom for the last 4 years of her life. It was the most rewarding thing I have ever done as well as one of the hardest. It's emotionally draining and physically exhausting to care for a loved one who is critically ill. One thing I learned from the experience - it's important to make time for yourself. If you are caring for a parent or loved one, it's important to take a break every once in awhile. Bring in another family member or hire a professional caregiver to come in for a few hours so you can take a mental health break. My husband and I realized we had not been away on a vacation for several years. We found an assisted living care facility that took my mother for 2 weeks so that we could get away. Caregivers need to recharge. It's ok to ask for help!
That is a great idea! To call local care facilities to see if your loved ones can stay for just a short period of time...I'm so glad they did it. Did insurance or medicare cover the cost?
No. This expense was a personal expense. It was not covered by insurance or medicare. Surprisingly, it was not as expensive as I had thought it would be!

The Credit CARD Act of 2009 is a 45 page long amendment to the Truth in Lending Act that makes for a wonderful cat bed—at least, that’s what my cats seem to think as they both stretch out luxuriously on its pages. And that’s fine for them, after all…
